Fast Start Lead to Third Place in Tournament

Holy Family started fast as their press worked effectively to stymie St. Anselm offense in the first quarter.  HF took control in the middle of the first quarter and never relinquished the lead.  Several players played well as the team finished the first quarter with a 12 – 1 lead.  The team had a very balanced offensive attack and finished the game scoring 35 to St. Anselm’s 24.  The team was very excited about winning third place in the St. Roberts Thanksgiving Tournament and look forward to the start of regular season later this month.

Second Game Brings First Loss

Sometimes height prevails over speed.  This was best exemplified as our team took it on the chin when we faced off against St. Joe's yesterday.  The girls played valiantly but as they say... you can't coach height.  Seems like we need to figure out how to add 3 - 4 inches on all of our girls to match up with some of the teams in our division.

I liked the way we pressed their guards, but we still need to learn how and when to help defensively.  Areas where we still need to get better at is rebounding and relaxing on offense.  Our league does not have a shot clock and we should look for each other more for easier shots, but that will come as we play more together and we learn each others games better.

New Season Starts at Holy Family

This years Holy Family basketball team is a mix of 7th and 8th graders and we are adding several new faces to our team.  We will need to learn a lot over the next month to stay competitive with the other teams in our division but we should do well as we have something we rarely have had at HF and that is depth at each position.

Holy Family basketball got of on the right foot as the team took the floor for the first game of the 2012 season.  Our first game of the year was against St. Linus.  After only a handful of practices the girls took the floor and started with a bang as they pressed their way to an early lead and never looked back.
It’s always easier to practice after a win than a loss.  Best of all, there was plenty to discuss and improve upon after the game.

Best part of the game was our passing and looking for the open player on offense.  An area where we need to improve upon is our rebounding.  Rebounding doesn’t involve athletic skill and height it involves aggression and tenacity.
